“NAYEE DISHA”
OUR VOCATIONAL TRAINING CENTRE
“We cannot help everyone, but everyone can help someone”.
Our dream was to empower underprivileged women with self -worth and earning skills.
This vision soon materialized when we inaugurated our vocational training centre
at Shah & Nahar Estate, on 9th June 2015, starting classes for women living in the
surrounding industrial area.
We named our Center ‘NAYEE DISHA’ – giving women a new direction by teaching them
skills to make them financially stronger, to support their family and use their
time gainfully.
Today we have several courses on offer - Spoken English, Beautician's Course, Mehndi
application and Foot Spa - all taught professionally. The Tailoring class remains
the most popular. Ladies are taught to make festive items like potli bags, torans
and other gifting items. With the plastic ban, attractive jute bags and vegetable
shopping bags were designed. Orders started pouring in and the club had to employ
four ladies on a full-time basis. Students were paid per piece for the items they
made. It was an “Earn as you Learn” policy, which gave them financial stability.
Word of mouth publicity increased the popularity of the center, and number of students
increased.
Besides displaying their creativity in our exhibition, the Ruchika Fest, Nayee Disha
now participates in several outside shows. Their products are appreciated, and the
students man the stall themselves, giving a further boost to their confidence and
creativity. We also take up Foot Spa offers for public events.
Our dedicated Nayee Disha supervisors visits the centre daily, to teach and train
the girls in innovative ways. They believe that alone one can do so little, but
together we achieve so much!
