JOINT DIWALI CELEBRATIONS – DURGA PUJA
12th October 2018
Emperor Hall, NSCI Club, Worli

Diwali was celebrated with the beat of Dhaak, to welcome Durgaji. The Spandan Nritya Ballet Troupe were invited from Kolkata to perform the traditional puja dances, heralding the Navratri festivities. Their beautiful dances, pretty faces and outfits, kept the audience enthralled. Mrs Piyali Bose had choreographed the show and played Ma Durga herself. Her stunning expressions were a sight to savour as her demeanor changed from passive to aggressive and fierce. She was indeed very talented.

Members came draped in traditional Bengali saris, with their key rings tied to the end of the pallav, some in buns, some with hair loose, with sindoor in their parting, kajal in their eyes, large bindis on their foreheads and celebration in their hearts. It was a happy gathering of women in festive mode.

The hall had been decorated with Durga photos solar and papier mache décor, Kolkata style. Roli imprints of the palm hung on white sheets, marking the auspicious occasion. The LED screen on stage, with changing colours and images of Durgaji, was arresting.

Bengali cuisine with Gulab Chuski Gola, Aampora (raw mango) Shorbat, Bela Shorbat, Singhara, Beetroot Chop, Mocha Chop with Kasundi (mustard) Dohi, Karela & Parval bhaja, Bengali Khichdi, Tomato Chutney were served in earthen ware pots. Chamcham, Misti Dohi, Baked Rosgolla, were presented in kela patta and Tender coconut Ice-cream with Nolen Gur had members burping with satisfaction. Even Mamta Banerjee would have approved!

Members were given prasad laddus as a memory of the Durga Puja celebration, Kolkata style. JOI MA KALI !!!
