KARVA CHAUTH CELEBRATION

The Karwa Chauth fast denotes the love between husband and wife. From sunrise to moon sighting, the wife has no food, for her husband’s happiness and longevity. Bollywood has popularized this, with the hero feeding his lady love her first morsel, after sighting the moon.

Members came dressed in festive mode. The hall was a kaleidoscope of reds, yellows, greens and oranges, all with matching jewelry. The Ball Room was decorted like a ‘Haath’. Mehndhi wallis were placed in one corner of the room, and ladies queued up before them. Chaat stalls were placed along side, so members could munch at all on offer. Festive items were on sale - diyas, torans, gift bags, rangolis, silver idols of Laxmi and Ganesh as well as LED candles and the ladies shopped happily for Diwali.

Ruchika celebrated Karwa Chauth with a happy blend of the traditional with modern Bollywood song and dance. An overwhelming response from all the three wings to participate, had ladies of all ages on stage. The talented Minaxi Laddha, C wing, directed thee show, assisted by Puja Bajla. The songs were chosen from three categories – Shringar Ras (Chandan sa badan), Prem Ras (Piya aisa jiya me samay gayo re) and Chand (Chaudhavi ka chaand).

When the three Presidents took the stage, the show began. Presidents Chanda Jiwarajka A wing, Suman Gupta B wing and Supriya Agarwal C wing did an excellent job of compering. It was a spell binding 40-minute fusion of song and dance – happily moving at a quick pace, without getting tedious. The whistles and applause from the audience, were in genuine appreciation of seeing friends on stage. Seasoned dancers like Shobha Somani, joined the performers impromptu, the mood was so infectious! A special prize was given to ladies wearing ALL the Solah Shringar.

The ITC chefs had done a superb job of laying out a lavish lunch, which was not just appetizing but a visual delight. Apart from the starters, the spread included kadhai paneer, rajwadi alu, chole bathure, kadi pakodi and tandoori gobi, to live chaat counters with malpua rabadi, kulfi, kesar phirni & mung dal halwa – it was a delicious Diwali spread.

Priti Singhania and Kavita Garodia organized attractive Karwas, chudis, bindis & diyas as a take home gift for the members. It was an afternoon of bonding and fellowship, meeting, eating and greeting – in the true spirit of Diwali.
